What is the Purpose with Using Laundry Machine Hose Lint Snares?
What is a lint trap anyway?
Lint traps or snares are mesh screens that are designed to go over the discharge hose of a washing machine that empties into a sink, and are also known as lint snares or lint filters. They are used to capture any lint that is discharged from the water to keep it from going down the sink. Lint filters are more important today since washing machines no longer come with a built in lint filter, as a result, more lint gets washed down the drain, and stays on the clothes.
If you're even remotely like me, you've gotten fed up with the lint from your laundry machine that has clogged your pipes, has coated your sink and has made your septic system perform less efficiently. It took me some time, but then I realized that there was something I should do about the problem, so I originally had to come up with a temporary answer which was finding an old nylon stocking and then searching for something to attach the stocking to the washing machine hose that wouldn't come off every time the washer went into the spin cycle.
This was a hassle because I would have to find a stocking that was long enough and then get some rubber bands that would twist tight enough to hold the nylon in place for a long period of time. The stocking filtering worked in reducing the lint, however the solution was always haphazard. I then ran across something called lint traps that are especially made for washing machine drain hoses to specifically filter the lint from the drain water. The snares I found are made of stainless steel and the come with an attachment tie that snugly holds the filter to the hose so that it doesn't slip off when the water empties from the laundry machine. What makes it easy is that there is no additional equipment needed to attach them to the washing machine output hose. The snares are also easy to install and to take off when they get full of lint, and best practice is to replace them when they are about 1/2 full.
You can get a 5 pack of lint traps on Amazon or just search for washing machine hose lint filters.
These lint traps keep us from having to deal with:
- clogged sink drains filled with lint from the exit water during the machine spin cycle
- the sink filling up with water because the drain screens become filled with lint and block the water from draining out
- globs of yucky lint being left in the sink only to have to be washed out time and time again.
Unfortunately these lint traps don't solve the problem of the extra lint we find on our clothes now after the wash cycle because manufacturers decided to remove the lint filters from washing machines.....
